# Daydream Live Daydream Music Generator API

The Daydream Music Generator API turns a text description into a royalty-free instrumental song and returns it as an MP3 and a WAV, usable in commercial games and videos. A request takes a prompt plus optional duration up to 120 seconds, bpm, musical key, loop, seed, and one or two variations, and the song is queued and polled until it is done. Each version also exposes separate drums, bass, guitar, keys, and other stems as FLAC files, and any single stem can be regenerated with the other four kept as they are, or the last redo undone. An account makes 5 songs a month free and then spends credits, and without a key a song or a pack of 10 songs can be paid for over HTTP 402.

## For AI agents

Generate royalty-free instrumental songs from a text prompt, poll until they are ready, download MP3, WAV, and per-stem FLAC files, and regenerate individual stems.

## Scope

Does not generate vocals or lyrics, transcribe audio, or host a public music library. Use for generating instrumental songs, loops, and stems from text prompts only.

## Capabilities

- Generate an instrumental song from a prompt with optional duration, bpm, key, loop, seed, and variations via POST /songs
- Poll a queued song's status, place in line, and files with GET `/songs/{id}` until it is done or failed
- Download a version's MP3 or WAV from GET `/songs/{id}/{n}.mp3` and GET `/songs/{id}/{n}.wav` without a key
- Fetch one stem (drums, bass, guitar, keys, or other) as FLAC with GET `/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac`
- Regenerate a single stem with action redo, or revert the last redo with action undo, via POST `/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac`
- Make a gapless loop for game backgrounds by setting loop to true, trimmed to whole bars with no fade
- Check songs used and left this month with GET /usage

## Use cases

### Soundtracks on demand for a content agent through Jentic

A video or game-building agent can score its own output. Through Jentic it finds the Daydream song operation by intent, sends POST /songs with a prompt describing the mood and a duration to fit the clip, polls GET `/songs/{id}` until status is done, then downloads the MP3 or WAV. The Daydream API key is injected at call time and never sits in the agent's context.

Example prompt: Call POST /songs with prompt 'calm acoustic guitar, warm, for a cooking video' and duration 45, poll GET `/songs/{id}` until status is done, then fetch GET `/songs/{id}/{n}.mp3` with n set to 1

### Gapless loops for games

Game menus and levels need music that repeats without a seam. Setting loop to true on POST /songs makes a gapless loop of 8 bars unless duration says otherwise, in whole bars with no fade out, and a fixed seed with the same settings reproduces the same song so a build stays stable.

Example prompt: Call POST /songs with prompt 'chiptune adventure theme', loop true, bpm 140, key 'C major', and seed 42, then download the WAV once done

### Stem-level edits

When one part of a track does not fit, there is no need to start over. Each version exposes drums, bass, guitar, keys, and other stems as FLAC, and POST `/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac` with action redo makes that stem again with the other four exactly as they are, counting as one song. Action undo returns the version to how it was before its last redo, free of charge.

Example prompt: Call POST `/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac` with n 1, stem 'drums', and action 'redo', poll GET `/songs/{id}` until the version's redo.making field is gone, then download GET `/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac` for the same n and stem

## Why Jentic

- **Setup:** Wiring Daydream by hand means handling its bearer key, the queue-and-poll flow for each song, and the HTTP 402 payment path when no key is sent. Through Jentic you install once, import the Daydream Music Generator API from the API Directory, store the key once, and your agent calls it.
- **Permission scoping:** Daydream puts the song id, version, and stem in the URL path (`/songs/{id}/{n}/{stem}.flac`), so a rule can pin your agent to one song's files and stem edits. You choose the operations it may call, so credit-spending ones like stem redo or pack purchase are not included unless you add them.
- **Credential handling:** Your Daydream API key is stored once, encrypted, by your own Jentic One instance and injected at execution time. It never enters the agent's prompt, logs, or context.
- **Discovery method:** Agents search Jentic by intent such as 'generate a song from a description' or 'redo the drums stem', and Jentic returns the matching Daydream operation with its input schema so the agent calls the right endpoint without browsing the reference docs.

## FAQ

### Is there a Daydream Music Generator MCP server?

You don't need an MCP server to give your agent the Daydream Music Generator. Jentic connects it directly from the API Directory: import it, store your Daydream API key once, and your agent calls it. Operations are discovered on demand, so no extra tool definitions sit in the agent's context.

### What authentication does the Daydream Music Generator API use?

Per its OpenAPI spec, the API uses a Daydream API key sent as a bearer token in the Authorization header. Not every operation needs it: the MP3, WAV, and stem FLAC downloads are open, POST /packs needs no key, and POST /songs can also be paid without a key over HTTP 402. Through Jentic, the key is stored encrypted by your own Jentic One instance and injected at call time.

### Is the Daydream Music Generator API free?

Per its spec, an account makes 5 songs a month free, then pays 5 credits ($0.05) a song from a credit pack. Without a key, POST /songs answers HTTP 402 for 0.05 USD payable over MPP or x402, and POST /packs sells 10 songs for 0.50 USD. A song that fails is given back.

### Can I limit what my agent is allowed to do with the Daydream Music Generator API?

Yes. For example, write a rule that allows GET `/songs/{id}` and the MP3 and WAV downloads, plus POST /songs only, so the agent can make and fetch songs but cannot redo stems or buy packs, and every call it makes is logged.

### What are the rate limits for the Daydream Music Generator API?

The OpenAPI spec does not specify rate limits. It does describe a monthly song allowance that GET /usage reports; check https://gen.daydream.live/docs for current limits.

### How do I generate a song through Jentic?

Search Jentic for 'generate a song from a description', load the createSong operation, call POST /songs with a prompt, then poll GET `/songs/{id}` until status is done and download the files. To run it on your own infrastructure, install Jentic One from its GitHub repo.

### Can the Daydream Music Generator make songs with vocals?

No. The spec says songs are instrumental only: words asking for vocals or lyrics are dropped from the prompt. Artist names are also removed before generation, and the answer then has artist_names_removed set to true.
