Install Jentic One Beta
Jentic One is a self-hosted execution layer for AI agents. It lets your agent call the Free News API, or any other public or private API you need. You set the rules, the agent never sees your credentials, and every call is logged.
Two steps, two machines. Install the instance in a safe environment, then register your agent from wherever it runs.
Step 1: Jentic One Host machine
# On the machine that will host your Jentic One instance:
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Ffreenewsapi.io%2Ffreenewsapi" | shStep 2: Agent machine
# On the machine where your agent runs (keep this separate from the instance):
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Ffreenewsapi.io%2Ffreenewsapi" | sh
jentic register # connects your agent to your Jentic One instanceJentic One is in public beta. The setup above keeps your agent separate from the instance, which is what you want before using real credentials: an agent running as the same OS user as Jentic One can read its stored keys directly. Just evaluating? A single local install is fine to start. See the secure deployment guide for the tiers.

★ Agent News Retrieval
An AI agent connected through Jentic can search for news articles on a topic, fetch the full details of the most relevant one, and identify the publisher behind it, without a developer wiring the Free News API by hand. The agent discovers each operation by intent and calls it with a stored key.
Search for articles about a topic, fetch the top article's details, and report its publisher
Topic and Source Discovery
Apps let users browse news by subject and source. The Free News API lists the available topics and searches publishers and authors, so a reader can filter articles by topic and follow specific sources.
List the available topics and search publishers that cover a chosen topic
Localized News Feeds
International apps serve news in the right language for each market. The Free News API lists the languages available for a country, so a feed can request articles in a language that fits the audience.

6 endpoints — the free news api serves news articles and their full details, and searches publishers and authors across sources.

What agents get from Jentic-routed access to this vendor.
Setup
Wiring the Free News API by hand means managing its API key header, learning each query's parameters, and paging through results yourself. Through Jentic you install once, import the Free News API from the API Directory, store the key once, and your agent calls it.
Permission scoping
The Free News API is read-only with six operations, so a rule can allow only the article and lookup reads your agent needs. You choose the operations the agent may call, and because none of them write, the agent can search news but change nothing.
Credential isolation
Your Free News API key is stored once, encrypted, by your own Jentic One instance and injected at execution time. It never enters the agent's prompt, logs, or context.
Intent-based discovery
Agents search Jentic by intent such as 'search news articles' or 'get article details', and Jentic returns the matching Free News API operation with its input schema so the agent calls the right endpoint without browsing the reference docs.

What authentication does the Free News API use?
The Free News API authenticates with an API key sent in the `x-api-key` request header, per its OpenAPI spec. Through Jentic the key is stored encrypted by your own Jentic One instance and injected at call time, so it never reaches the agent's context.
Can I fetch the full details of an article with the Free News API?
Yes. After listing or searching articles, the details operation returns the full content and metadata for a single article so an agent can read or summarize it.
Can I limit what my agent is allowed to do with the Free News API?
Yes. The Free News API is read-only, so write a rule that allows only the article-search and detail operations, letting the agent pull news without touching anything else. Every call it makes is logged.
Is there a Free News API MCP server?
You do not need an MCP server to give your agent the Free News API. Jentic connects it directly from the API Directory: import the Free News API, store your key once, and the agent calls its read operations by intent without loading another server's tool definitions into its context.
What are the rate limits for the Free News API?
The OpenAPI spec does not specify numeric rate limits for the Free News API. Check the Free News API documentation at https://freenewsapi.io for current plan limits.
How do I search news articles with the Free News API through Jentic?
Search Jentic for an intent like 'search news articles', and it returns the Free News API's article-search operation with its input schema so your agent can query by topic, language, or source. To run it on your own infrastructure, install Jentic One from its GitHub repo.
For Agents
Search and list news articles, fetch the full details of an article, and look up publishers and authors. Discover the languages available by country and the available topics to filter queries.
Use for: Search for recent news articles about a topic, Get the full details of a specific article, Find publishers that cover a subject, Look up an author across news articles
Not supported: Does not publish articles, send newsletters, or run sentiment analysis. Use for searching news articles, publishers, authors, languages, and topics only.
The Free News API serves news articles and their full details, and searches publishers and authors across sources. It lists the languages available for a country and the available topics, so queries can be filtered by language and subject. Requests are authenticated with an API key sent in a request header.
