Install Jentic One Beta
Jentic One is a self-hosted execution layer for AI agents. It lets your agent call the JustBacked API, or any other public or private API you need. You set the rules, the agent never sees your credentials, and every call is logged.
Two steps, two machines. Install the instance in a safe environment, then register your agent from wherever it runs.
Step 1: Jentic One Host machine
# On the machine that will host your Jentic One instance:
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Fjustbacked.com%2Fjustbacked" | shStep 2: Agent machine
# On the machine where your agent runs (keep this separate from the instance):
curl -fsSL "https://jentic.com/install.sh?src=apis&api=%2Fapis%2Fjustbacked.com%2Fjustbacked" | sh
jentic register # connects your agent to your Jentic One instanceJentic One is in public beta. The setup above keeps your agent separate from the instance, which is what you want before using real credentials: an agent running as the same OS user as Jentic One can read its stored keys directly. Just evaluating? A single local install is fine to start. See the secure deployment guide for the tiers.
What an agent can do with JustBacked API.
Search open roles at recently funded startups with filters such as q, metro, mode, fn, lvl, stage, raised, and minpay
Read a startup's profile with its latest round, investors, hiring velocity, and open roles
Fetch a role's public application questions from Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby without submitting anything
Track a role in the application tracker and move it through statuses such as saved, applied, interviewing, offer, or rejected
GET STARTED
Add a company to a named list by list_id or list_name
Save a job search with an email alert, list saved searches, and delete one by id
Check membership, API usage, and tracker counts for the current key
Patterns agents use JustBacked API for, with concrete tasks.
★ Agent-Run Job Search Through Jentic
An AI agent helping a job seeker searches JustBacked for roles that match their function, seniority, and location at startups that raised recently, reads each company's round and investors, and records the shortlist in the member's tracker. Through Jentic the agent finds these operations by intent and calls them with the member's key, while the developer chooses whether it may write to the tracker at all.
Search JustBacked jobs with fn 'engineering', lvl 'senior', mode 'remote', and stage 'seed', read the company profile for the top three results, then track each role with status 'saved'
Application Prep From Real Form Questions
Before a candidate applies, an agent reads the role's public application questions from Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby through JustBacked and drafts answers for the candidate to review. JustBacked never submits the application, so the candidate stays in control of what is sent to the employer.
Get the application form for a job slug, list each question, draft answers from the candidate's resume, and return them for review without submitting
Application Tracker Upkeep
A candidate juggling many applications asks an agent to keep their tracker current. The agent lists tracked roles by status, updates a role's status with an appended note after an interview, and records the applied_at date, so the tracker reflects where each application stands.
List applications with status 'applied', then update the role for job slug 'acme-senior-engineer' to status 'interviewing' with append_note 'First call booked'
Funding-Led Company Targeting
A candidate who wants to join a company right after it raised asks an agent to find roles at startups whose latest round closed within the last 30 days and was at least 10 million USD. The agent saves the matching companies to a list and creates a saved search with an alert so new roles arrive by email.
Search jobs with raised 30 and min 10000000, add each distinct company to the list named 'Just raised', and save the search with an email alert
13 endpoints — the justbacked api searches open roles at venture-backed startups that raised in the last six months and keeps a member's personal job hunt organised around them.

What agents get from Jentic-routed access to this vendor.
Setup
Wiring JustBacked by hand means generating a member key, choosing between bearer and X-Api-Key headers, mapping its long list of job filters, and staying inside a daily request allowance. Through Jentic you install once, import the JustBacked API from the API Directory, store the key once, and your agent calls it.
Permission scoping
JustBacked puts job and company slugs in the URL path, so a rule can bound reads to /jobs/{slug} and /companies/{slug}, while tracker, list, and saved-search writes carry their target in the body or query. You choose the operations your agent may call, so writes like DELETE /saved-searches are not included unless you add them.
Credential isolation
Your JustBacked member key is stored once, encrypted, by your own Jentic One instance and injected at execution time. It never enters the agent's prompt, logs, or context.
Intent-based discovery
Agents search Jentic by intent such as 'find jobs at seed-stage startups' or 'update my application status', and Jentic returns the matching JustBacked operation with its input schema so the agent calls the right endpoint without browsing the reference docs.

Specific to using JustBacked API through Jentic.
What authentication does the JustBacked API use?
Per its OpenAPI spec, the JustBacked API uses a bearer token: a member API key starting with jb_live_ that you create on your JustBacked account page, and the spec notes the X-Api-Key header also works. Through Jentic the key is stored encrypted by your own Jentic One instance and injected at call time, so it never enters the agent's context.
Is there a JustBacked MCP server?
You don't need an MCP server to give your agent the JustBacked API. Jentic connects it directly from the API Directory: import it, store your member key once, and your agent calls it, discovering operations on demand instead of loading a server's tool definitions into its context.
Can I limit what my agent is allowed to do with the JustBacked API?
Yes. Write a rule that allows only the job search, job detail, and company profile reads, and a research agent can explore roles without touching the tracker, lists, or saved searches. Add the application update operation later if you want it to record progress, and every call it makes is logged.
Can the JustBacked API submit a job application for me?
No. JustBacked never submits job applications. GET /jobs/{slug}/application-form returns the role's public application questions from Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby so your agent can help prepare answers, and POST /applications records the role in your tracker.
What are the rate limits for the JustBacked API?
The JustBacked OpenAPI spec states a limit of 1,000 requests per day per member, reset on UTC days. GET /me returns your membership and API usage so your agent can check how much of the day's allowance remains.
How do I search startup jobs with the JustBacked API through Jentic?
Search Jentic for an intent like 'find jobs at recently funded startups', import the JustBacked API from the API Directory, and store your member key. Your agent then calls GET /jobs with filters such as stage, fn, and metro, and GET /companies/{slug} for the funding detail. To run it on your own infrastructure, install Jentic One from its GitHub repo.
For Agents
Search startup jobs by funding stage, pay, location, and function, read company funding profiles and application questions, and keep a member's application tracker, company lists, and saved searches up to date.
Use for: Find remote senior engineering roles at seed-stage startups, Search for product jobs in NYC paying at least 180000 USD, Get the funding round and investors for the company behind this role, Retrieve the application questions for a job before I apply
Not supported: Does not submit job applications, post jobs for employers, or run employer-side applicant tracking. Use for searching startup jobs and managing a candidate's own tracker, lists, and saved searches only.
The JustBacked API searches open roles at venture-backed startups that raised in the last six months and keeps a member's personal job hunt organised around them. It filters jobs by keyword, metro, work mode, function, seniority, funding stage, round size, and published pay, returns full company profiles with round, investors, and hiring velocity, and reads a role's public application questions from Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby. Members also track applications through statuses such as applied, interviewing, and offer, add companies to lists, and save searches with email alerts. JustBacked never submits job applications: the application-form endpoint is read-only.
